The Inside Scoop on Gloss Frost

Get to know all the Gloss Frost Glossip as we answer the most asked questions about our Swiss-Meringue style, ready-made buttercream (which btw is launching in the UK this Friday!)

Q1. Gloss Frost is really firm in the bucket, how do I make it softer and smoother?

There are two ways you can soften Gloss Frost buttercream: to soften it slowly so you have more control over the result, simply scoop it out of the bucket into a bowl and give it a good stir until you reach your desired texture. For super speedy softening, pop a bowl of Gloss Frost into the microwave for up to 30 seconds.

If you refrigerate Gloss Frost, either in the bucket or iced on your cake, it will firm back up, just like your homemade buttercream.

Q2. Is Gloss Frost stable enough to pipe buttercream florals?

Absolutely! Gloss Frost is a shapeshifter. It comes out of the bucket firm and softens when stirred or warmed. This means you can control the consistency to suit what you're doing. Just avoid heating or over-mixing when piping florals.

Q3. Does Gloss Frost contain butter?

Nope! Gloss Frost is a veggie-based buttercream. We did this for a few reasons:

    • As a veggie-based buttercream Gloss Frost is shelf stable, so it won't spoil if left unrefrigerated (as long as it's uncontaminated). This means client-based cake decorators with limited fridge space can batch prep their cakes and leave them sitting out ready to be collected. It also means clients won't have to worry about finding fridge space for their three-tiered cake!
    • This makes Gloss Frost Vegan, Halal and suitable for people with dairy allergies and lactose intolerances.
    • Without butter, Gloss Frost holds up better in warmer temperatures, making it more stable for decorating in varying climates (even under the harsh Australian sun!)

    Q4. Is Gloss Frost allergen-free?

While Gloss Frost is dairy and gluten free, it does contain Soy. You can view the full list of ingredients here.

Q5. How far does a bucket of Gloss Frost go?

    A 1L bucket of Gloss Frost pipes 24 cupcakes and covers 1 x 9in cake. The 2L bucket piped 48 cupcakes and covers 2 x 9in cakes.

If you're decorating a 9in triple barrel cake to allow for buttercream required to stack, mask and decorate, we suggest grabbing 2 x 2L buckets to be safe.

Q6. If I didn't use up the full bucket of Gloss Frost, do I need to refrigerate the leftovers?

Gloss Frost is shelf stable for up to 12 months (always refer to the best before on the bottom of the bucket). If there are no contaminants (cake crumbs, dairy products, etc...) in your bucket it is fine to leave it unrefrigerated until the best before date.

However, to be safe, it won't effect the quality of Gloss Frost to put it in the fridge until you want to use it next. Just stir or microwave to soften it back up again.

Q7. Is Gloss Frost pre-coloured or ready to colour?

Gloss Frost is ready to colour! It's a clean white buttercream with no nasty yellow undertones, making it the perfect canvas for creating beautifully vibrant colours.

For the best colouring results, colour with Oil Blend.

Q8. Can you add flavouring to Gloss Frost?

Definitely! As a veggie-based buttercream Gloss Frost is neutral in flavour so you can spice it up with any flavour your heart desires.
